“Jewelry is like the perfect spice – it always complements what’s already there.” -Diane Von Furstenberg
What exactly is a moissanite stone?
According to the official moissanite website, “Moissanite is a rare, naturally occurring mineral also known as silicon carbide, which was first discovered by the Nobel Prize-winning chemist, Dr. Henri Moissan, at the site of a massive meteorite strike in Arizona.”
Many became intrigued by the new gem. Before the 2000s came around, scientists found a way to use the stone and craft it into a jewel so durable that rubies, diamonds, sapphires, and emeralds could hardly compare to its strength. Once it became incorporated into the jewelry world, the moissanite stone came alive and was named after the discovering chemist.
How does moissanite differ from diamonds?
Although the two gems can look strikingly similar, there are a few vast differences to look for if you are determined to identify which stone you are considering purchasing. Apart from the moissanite’s incredible durability, it also has much more shine and brilliance to it than a diamond.
In addition, jewelrynotes.com shares, “If you look through the top or the side of a polished round moissanite, the facets on the opposite side of the stone will appear doubled. In diamonds, you shouldn’t be able to see such an effect.” Moissanites also tend to be lighter, cheaper, and in higher clarity than diamonds.
What are the proper ways to clean moissanite stones?
Our team recommends that you clean your moissanite stones simply and gently. The best way to do so is to grab a non-toxic, mild soap and use soft cloth or toothbrush under warm water for optimal results.
